Brighton Language College holds a Berlitz franchise, delivering Berlitz language courses to our Berlitz clients. This means we operate and communicate with over 400 Berlitz Centres all around the world providing Berlitz lessons for Berlitz students visiting the UK, mostly privately or in small groups.
All of our courses feature a modern syllabus based on years of teaching experience taught by our instructors. Lessons blend various learning strategies with The Berlitz Method, offering the best of both worlds.
At Brighton Language College we aim to get you speaking in the target language as soon as possible, as much as possible. The Berlitz Method® is a communicative method with real life vocabulary used in real life situations.
Grammar is studied to aid communication. Instructors use a direct approach based on listening and speaking, supported by reading and writing exercises, so that students learn with natural ease.

A Brief History of Mr. Berlitz
Mr. Berlitz was German but moved to the US in 1872 to teach languages through a traditional grammar-translation approach, he joined the Warner Polytechnic College.
We needed an assistant French teacher so he hired a young Frenchman, Nicholas Joly. He arrived at the college but had not met Mr. Berlitz before, and when they met Mr. Berlitz found that Joly spoke no English. Mr. Berlitz told his new assistant teacher to point at things and act out verbs. Mr. Berlitz then got sick and went to bed for the next six weeks.
When he got better Mr. Berlitz expected many complaints from his students. But he found them speaking with perfect French accents. Berlitz quickly understood this was the beginning of a new teaching technique replacing boring grammar based learning with language discovery.
Over time the Berlitz Method was improved, but Mr. Berlitz’s discovery of enjoyable classes with native speakers is still number one around the world.
