Biometric Resident Permit (BRP) – English courses 6-11 months

The biometric residence permit (BRP) is an identity card and visa that is proof of the holder’s right to study in the UK. It can also be used as a form of identification (for example, if they wish to open a bank account in the UK). The holder is not required to carry their permit at all times, but they must show it at the border, together with their passport, when travelling outside of, and when returning to, the UK.

For BLC International students this visa type will be issued when you plan on taking an extended course of longer than 6 months but not more than 11 months. When your leave is granted, you’ll be issued a 30 day visa in order to enter the UK and collect your BRP at a post office branch close to your place of study. This initial visa is valid for 30 days from the date you said you’d arrive in the UK.

Your visa decision letter will tell you:

You must bring your passport or travel document with your 30 day visa when you collect your BRP. You should also bring your decision letter.

If you will not be accompanied by a parent / legal guardian when collecting your BRP and you are under 18, you must contact the UK Visas and Immigration and register a “Responsible Adult” who can either accompany you to the Post Office branch, or who can collect the BRP on your behalf. BLC International will help in this matter by contacting the UK Visas and Immigration and supplying a “Responsible Adult”.
